Protopic 0.03% 10 gm

$48

Protopic 0.03% 10gm is a prescription-strength, non-steroid ointment used to treat moderate to severe atopic dermatitis (eczema). Its active ingredient is tacrolimus at a concentration of 0.03%.

  • Active Ingredient: Tacrolimus monohydrate 0.03%.
  • Purpose: It is primarily used as a second-line therapy for patients with eczema (an itchy, red rash) who have not responded well to, or cannot tolerate, conventional treatments like topical corticosteroids.
  • Mechanism: Tacrolimus is an immunomodulator that reduces the over-reaction of the skin’s immune system, which in turn helps relieve inflammation, redness, and itching.
  • Age Restrictions: The 0.03% strength is approved for use in adults and children ages 2 years and older. The higher strength (0.1%) is only for those aged 16 and above.

How to Use

  • Apply a thin layer to the affected skin areas, usually twice a day, or as directed by a doctor.
  • Wash your hands before and after application, unless you are treating your hands.
  • Do not cover the treated area with bandages or wraps, but normal clothing can be worn.
  • Improvement is generally seen within one week; if not, consult your doctor.

Important Precautions

  • Prescription Only: Protopic is a prescription-only medicine and should be used exactly as a doctor has instructed.
  • Short-term Use: It is intended for short-term and intermittent long-term use, not for continuous, long-term application.
  • Sun Sensitivity: The medication can make your skin more sensitive to sunlight. Avoid excessive sun exposure, sun lamps, and tanning beds, and wear protective clothing if outdoors.
  • Side Effects: Common side effects include a burning sensation or itching at the application site, which are usually mild and tend to go away within a week of starting treatment.
  • Alcohol: Drinking alcohol while using Protopic may cause facial flushing or skin irritation.
