Yes, you can stop taking PrEP if you’re not sexually active or no longer at risk of HIV exposure, but you should speak with our doctor first to ensure proper timing and protection.
PrEP (Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis) is typically taken once a day, every day, for maximum effectiveness.
PrEP can also be taken on-demand based on a 2-1-1 regimen. See the next question for more details.
How it works:
- 2 pills: Take 2 PrEP pills 2–24 hours before sex.
- 1 pill: Take 1 pill 24 hours after.
- 1 pill: Take 1 final pill 48 hours after the first dose. (If you have more sex during this period, take +1 pill daily until 48 hours after your last encounter.)
